Silverpoint Drawing Workshop, Clare Island

Clare Island Art in Co Mayo is offering a one day course in silverpoint drawing. Materials for this class, including 99% silver wire, are in the studio as is information about material suppliers. Silverpoint is a meditative drawing medium which was widely used by Renaissance artists but fell out of use with the discovery of graphite mines in the 16th century. The workshop is run by Kathleen Barnes, MFA from the University of California, who works and teaches at Clare Island Art. 

Silverpoint can be done by beginning to advanced artsts as it is straightforward drawing.  The workshop provides information on how the drawing surface is prepared and how to source the materials.  Examples of its use by other artists from Leonardo da Vinci to the present will be shown.

Cost: E70. Place secured by E25 deposit. Lunch is included.
Max 6 participants. Additional day is E25.
