Clare Island Art Studio and Gallery is on top of the hill in Capnagower, Clare Island.  Kathleen Barnes, proprietor,  is a returned resident of Clare Island who came back to the land of the "Ned" O'Malley and Mary O'Grady of Maum, Mary, Bridget, Michael, Emily and John.

Clare Island sits in the mouth of Clew Bay, County Mayo, in north west Ireland.  It presents a pastoral face to ferry travelers from the mainland, but the coasts of Clare Island are towering cliffs, bird colonies, and dynamic surf line.  Its clean, harsh beauty is the subject of the paintings of Clare Island Art.

There are classes and workshops regularly scheduled in the studio where artists of any stripe can enjoy the setting of Clare Island and the congenial company of other artists.  Appreciation of the artists who have gone before in history is emphasised as are oil, watercolour and acrylic painting and drawing.  Silverpoint drawing is offered at the studio.  This is an ancient fine art drawing form which uses pure silver wire as its primary medium. It tends to be a meditative art because of its precise line quality.  Renaissance painters like Leonardo da Vinci used this medium.  All materials for this drawing form are available at Clare Island Art, and workshops are given in its use.
